The last steps in the restoration of our blog are now completed, and all the entries and photos have been restored! It wasn’t too, too terrible – I had to email Movable Type once to iron out a small problem (I turned on dynamic publishing when I shouldn’t have), and after that everything went smoothly. Once I got back home from Napa, I replaced the style sheet and index templates with the backed up customized versions that I had saved, then after reading this very helpful page (which I recommend anyone else read BEFORE attempting to move a weblog from one host to another) I imported the blog entries that I had previously exported. And hey presto! after rebuilding, the blog was back (well, except that the entries’ footers no longer show the category, but the category links still work, and all of the entries know what category they belong to, so oh well). All in all, not an awful experience. Since we moved to Dreamhost, and they offer WordPress gratis, I did take a look at it, but it’s really too cludgy if you’re used to the look and feel of MT.
