Another Manic Monday

we're ready, race ready! We had a busy Monday for a holiday – first it was rising and chining at 5:30am to head over to Descanso Gardens for the annual Fiesta Days 5K/10K Run at 8am. It’s quite the local tradition and several people we knew were planning to run it. We hadn’t registered so needed to do that and pick up packets, hence the early departure. Chuck persuaded/coerced my niece who is not a runner to come along and try the 5K. So we all headed off with a stop at Krispy Kremes for some sustenance (nothing like the smell of fresh donuts at 6am!). I did the 10K course with our friend Sylvia (who with her husband Dave will go down in history as one of the “lying, cheating bastards” who won Chuck’s El Prieto race several years ago by taking a shortcut). We had a good run though the course was pretty hilly. Paris, Sylvia’s assistance dog in training, ran with us and as we rounded the last corner at about 6.1 miles with the finish in sight suddenyl had to go to the bathroom. Oops! Oh well, we still had a decent time of 62 minutes, and my foot and ankle felt great! (I continue to view this fact as this side of a miracle.) Chuck and Marjorie my niece also had a good run and Marjorie is up for more, which gives Chuck another outlet for his inner coach.

After the race we headed over to the Hill Street Cafe in La Canada, a great breakfast place right on the main drag and right, as it turned out, in the heart of the Fiesta Days parade, a kickass little parade that lasts for about a mile and included the town’s two Domino’s Pizza delivery cars, a mariachi band, several beauty queens, and a bunch of vintage cars! We watched the parade (mostly because we were parked on the other side of it), then headed home feeling justifiably pooped. After a soak in the hottob and a shower (and for Chuck cuz he’s older, a nap), we are next heading off to a BBQ at Jack’s Party Palace. The fun never stops!

Pics of all the spectacular goings-on are here.
