Ninja scuba!

Chuck has been taking suba classes for the past few weeks as he wants to go diving when we are in Hawaii this June. It’s a four-week program, or was supposed to be. Class is held twice a week for about three hours, most of which time he is in the pool learning how to use the equipment. He was on the homestretch, and they were planning their open water dives when the instructor put a drill bit through his hand. The final class was delayed a week, as were the open water dives. That was last week. They had their last class on Thursday, but the final was delayed until this week some time. They are getting an open water dive in today, though. Chuck had to go get fitted for his wetsuit yesterday, and brought it home and tried it on. Here is the saga:

It was backbreaking work getting into that wetsuit! By the time he was all dressed, he was exhausted. They are all down in Laguna now diving. The one thing he didn’t get were gloves. And the Pacific Ocean at this time of year is pretty darned nippy. He was a little concerned about that, but being a manly man didn’t want to complain. Me, I’d have bitched to high heaven. My hands are the first part of me to get cold, and I can’t imagine how cold they’d be in the ocean at this time of year!

The best part of all of this came before he actually started putting on the wet suit. He was debating what to wear under the wetsuit and pulled out of a drawer the world’s thinnest and skimpiest Speedo “swimsuit” – really, they were more like briefs. To say they left nothing to the imagination is an understatement. I saw them on the bed and asked if he had actually worn them anywhere. He actually blushed when he answered, which – as anyone who knows him will attest – is a very rare occurrence, and said yes, he had when he did a triathlon back in the day. He said he only wore them swimming and got into and out of the pool (they were mini triathlons) very fast and pulled on his running shorts. I bet he did.

As I couldn’t get him to pose in it, I enlisted the help of Mia to model the suit:

Needless to say, Chuck opted NOT to wear this suit for his open water dive.
